Description:
This little perennial
packs quite a punch! Its 1.5 - 2" wide, fluffy looking, fragrant,
double blossoms are intricately pattered in contrasting shades of red and
white. The flowers open deep red with large white blotches in the
center of each petal. As the flowers mature, the white blotches expand
and the red color lightens, leaving a wine colored ring around each petal.
The grey-green foliage forms a grassy looking clump that is just the right
size for the front of the flower border or in combination containers. |

red bicolor". The evergreen, glaucous grey-green foliage provides a stark

Description:
Shocking magenta-pink, upward-facing blooms which exude the scent of cloves
appear in masses above silvery-blue mats of evergreen foliage. Each of the 5
petals have serrated edges, looking as if they have been trimmed with
pinking shears, hence the common name 'Pinks'. If deadheaded, this species
will flower heaviest in early summer and again in fall. Cheddar Pinks
are native to Cheddar Gorge, England, the same town which is famous for its

Description:
Very deep crimson red, carnation-like flowers really make a statement up
against the glossy, dark green, lance-like foliage. The leaves are deep red
when they emerge in spring. This cultivar has proven to have more perennial
characteristics than others in the species which are biennial. It originates
from southern Europe. This genus prefers full sun to partial shade with
somewhat alkaline, well-drained soil. For the best appearance, clean up the
previous year's foliage in the spring. Deadheading the lateral buds will
prolong the blooming period to 6-8 weeks. |
