Hardy Fig
Ficus Description:
A deciduous shrub grown for its delicious edible fruit.
It is the plant with the earliest record of
cultivation by humans. Although most varieties are hardy in zone 7,
the Chicago Hardy Fig is one of those varieties that we can grow further
north.
The Chicago
Fig is high yielding and easy to grow. It produces medium sized, purple
skinned figs that can be peeled and eaten fresh from the tree.
They often die back to the
roots after colder winters but will grow again from the crown in spring and
produce attractive plants by summer time. Try placing them in a
sheltered location. |
